Unravel was a fantastic little physics based platformer. Check out our review to see me gush all about how beautiful the game was, and what an emotional impact it had on me, and likely thousands of other players. The game was a passion project out of Sweden from developer Coldwood Interactive. With the success of the first game, fans are anxious for any news on the follow up, and today came the first bit of it.
Coldwood Interactive has announced a partnership with EA for their next game. EA already worked with Coldwood on Unravel, helping to publish the game, and even giving it the stage at E3 2015. Now they are continuing that partnership into the future.
“At EA, we love working with creative and passionate development teams, in our own studios and our partners. Which is why I’m very pleased to announce that we’ve signed a new agreement with Coldwood to work with them on their next project.
“We don’t have any details to share right now, but we look forward to sharing more when the time is right. We could not be more excited to continue working with Martin Sahlin and the great team at Coldwood, and to see the next adventure they bring to life.”
It was actually a bit surprising to see EA so invested in a game like Unravel. Its announcement was wedged in between massive AAA shooters, sports games, and even some mobile apps. A small, very personal tale like Unravel just didn’t seem to fit in. However, in the larger scheme it makes a lot of sense, with EA working hard to win back a lot of the gaming audience that abandoned them due to some missteps. Hopefully whatever Coldwood Interactive comes up with next continues this trend, and we get another great game to enjoy.
