2015 was a tumultuous year for Hideo Kojima, one of the industry’s most recognizable names, as he had a very public yet still secretive divorce from Konami during the year. After not getting to accept the award for Metal Gear Solid 5 last month, Kojima is getting an even bigger one during next month’s D.I.C.E. Awards.

According to GameSpot, Kojima will be getting one of the biggest honors in all of gaming courtesy of the The Academy of Interactive Arts And Sciences at the D.I.C.E. Awards, where he will be inducted into the Video Game Hall of Fame.

This is a very prestigious honor, as only 20 people have been inducted previously, so he is definitely joining some fine and exclusive company. AIAS’s president Martin Rae had the following to say about Kojima and the award.

“Hideo Kojima’s career-defining works have shaped much of how the video game industry approaches cinematic storytelling and player engagement. As one of the most well-loved and well-respected designers of our time, it is a great honor for the Academy to induct him into our Hall of Fame. Hideo is a game creator whose eyes havealways looked towards the future, and we look forward to his thoughts on the D.I.C.E. Summit stage.”

Making this even better, the person who will be presenting this award to Kojima will be none other than Guillermo del Toro. Kojima and del Toro were working together on the very anticipated Silent Hills before the issues with Konami occurred and the game was cancelled, so this is the perfect person to do this.

Could this lead to another partnership with Kojima and his Kojima Productions? Probably not, but regardless this will be a great thing to see.
