The August Games with Gold promotion that Microsoft has been running will feature a few new fan favorites. The Xbox 360 exclusive, Crackdown, will be available from August 1st through the 15th. The back half of August will see Dead Rising 2 and Dead Rising 2: Case Zero free for all.

The Games with Gold program is a new initiative announced by Microsoft back at E3. The first game’s arrived in July, with Assassin’s Creed 2. The new titles will be released on the 1st and 16th of each month for the remainder of 2013.

The games are free to keep, but you do need to have an Xbox Live Gold subscription to download them. Assassin’s Creed 2 is currently available, but only for the rest of today. Crackdown will replace Assassin’s Creed starting tomorrow.

Microsoft has yet to really say if they plan on doing any similar promotions once the Xbox One arrives later this year. Sony’s similar Instant Game Collection program will remain as a big part of the PlayStation Plus program, which will be required for players to play online on the PlayStation 4. Hopefully, Sony’s persistence in offering new games to their subscribers on a monthly basis will force Microsoft’s hand to make a similar feature standard for Xbox Live Gold subscribers.
