Xbox Live Down – Users Report Matchmaking Problems Worldwide

by Kyle Hanson

UPDATE: Most users are reporting good connectivity at this time.

While the Xbox Live Status page is still reporting all services as up and running, many users online are reporting that Xbox Live seems to be down for them. The key component appears to be matchmaking, though with little info to go on, and thousands of users reporting different situations, it’s tough to pin down exactly what is going on.

One thing that was confirmed was that Halo 5 matchmaking was down. Microsoft seemed to confirm this earlier, though this has since disappeared. It seems like Xbox Live is definitely down again, though the extent of the outage isn’t yet known by anyone.

Xbox Live has been relatively unstable as of late, with multiple outages over the last several weeks, some of which lasted many hours. Usually an Xbox Live Status issue is resolved quickly, with little trouble for users, but these have come at bad times, or lasted so long as to impact players.

PSN also had some outages recently, though not nearly as many. In contrast to Microsoft, Sony has issued vouchers to users impacted by the outages, giving them free extensions to their PS Plus subscription. Microsoft seems reluctant to do the same, though they have apologized for past problems, and pledged to do better in the future.
