Game hardware sales may have dipped this year when compared to last, but there is no question that they are still selling well regardless, especially when there are rumors swirling of upgraded versions of the consoles coming in the near future. While no exact numbers were released on any console sales in the month of April, it appears that Microsoft is very happy with the Xbox One’s performance.
Following the release of the monthly NPD’s for April, Microsoft sent out a press release touting something other than sales, which they are calling global engagement.
Global engagement is hard to actually break down, but it’s a wording that Microsoft has used in the past to discuss the growth of the Xbox One. This time they are saying that April is the “best month in history for global engagement on Xbox One.”
They makes a point to say this was largely driven by games like the multi-platform Dark Souls 3 and The Division, as well as the Microsoft exclusive Quantum Break and Gears of War 4 Beta.
“It’s a great time for the industry, and we thank our fans for their continued support. We look forward to sharing more on our vision and plans for continuing to deliver the best gaming experience on Xbox One, Windows 10 and XBox Live this year at E3 in June.”
April also saw the Xbox One reduced by $50 as part of a special Spring sale, so it’s likely many decided to pull the trigger and purchase, adding to this record setting month for them. Now, we just need to wait and see what they have planned for E3 next month.
