NIS America has announced today that the action-RPG Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana will be released on PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita and PC on September 12th in North America, while it will reach Europe on the 15th. Ys VIII is the latest chapter in the long-running action RPG series, and it keeps developing the graphic style of Ys Seven and Memories of Celceta.
In this new chapter, the adventurer Adol finds himself in the Isle of Seiren, a place from where no one ever returns. However, Adol and a group of other heroes have built the settlement known as Castaway Village, where they defend themselves from giant beasts known as the Ancient Species. During his adventure, Adol receives some mysterious dreams concerning a blue-headed woman called Dana, which sets him to investigate her identity and what happened to her civilization.
The Ys series is known for its fast-paced and addictive combat style. Lacrimosa of Dana will be the second title of the series released on PS4 after the recent Ys Origin, although there are many more available for PSVita.
In a recent interview with Japanese magazine Dengeki, the series creator, Toshihiro Kondo, said he was considering either making a remake of a previous Ys next or a brand chapter in the series. The fact that the release of the games don’t follow the chronological order of the novels written by Yuri Shibamura gives him liberty to adapt any episode he wants.
