Mario Kart 8 originally launched for the Wii U and was definitely one of the biggest, if not the biggest hit for the system. Rather than having to wait a few years for a completely new Mario Kart game on the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo wisely decided to port the game over to the Switch with a number of new features, some of which are shown off in a new trailer ahead of the release of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

The release for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is next Friday, April 28, so Nintendo is getting a jump on that release by releasing a new trailer for the game. This one minute and 15 minute long trailer does a good job at showing off some of what is new in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which is going to help sell the game to people that already owned the game on Wii U and might be hesitant to buy it again.

Starting off, the trailer talks about the returning characters, which include the full roster that we had on disc in the original release, as well as showing off some of the DLC characters like Link and Isabelle. Then it shows off the new characters that are being added exclusively for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe as well, including Inkling Girl, Inkling Boy, and King Boo.

We then get a look at two returning items for the series that were missing in the original release of Mario Kart 8, which are the Boo and Feather items, with a description of each. Additionally, double items have returned this time around, with the trailer giving a quick showcase of them in action.

200cc is also mentioned, though that was added to the Wii U version as free DLC, along with the new Smart Steering feature that will make the game easier for beginnings if they use this feature.

Lastly, we get a quick glimpse at the completely revamped Battle Mode in the game, which is best seen in the full trailer that you can check out below.
