Almost two years ago Sony trademarked Starhawk, and many thought that this would be the sequel to 2007’s PlayStation 3 exclusive title: Warhawk. It turns out that this infact was the case. With Lightbox taking the wraps off of Starhawk for the first time, we got our first look at the title on GTTV earlier in the week. The developer has now also released a more in-depth look at the title in a developer diary that explains some of the key features to look forward to from the game.

It’s going to be a different experience than Warhawk was, that is certain. The game features both fully fleshed out single player experiences as well as 32 player multiplayer that has been redesigned for the sequel. The single player campaign will feature the hero, Emmett Graves at the center of the space conflict that revolves around “Rift Energy” and the inhabitants of the planet that have been affected by its mutating powers. The single player portion of the game is told to be built around sandbox design principles combined with tower defense elements.

Much like its predecessor, Starhawk will feature extensive vehicular combat as well. This includes jeeps, spacecrafts, and mechs that will be used to break through enemy defenses. Sides will be fighting a constant tug of war battle between utilizing the weapons and vehicles at their disposal and setting up defenses to protect against attacks. The game which will also incorporate a robust multiplayer suite, will include popular games like Capture the Flag where up to 32 players will play cooperatively to overrun the enemy defenses.

Have a look at the Lightbox Interactive ViDoc for the first preview of the game. We’ve added screenshots that have recently been released as well.
