Halo: The Master Chief Collection is out this year, but the game won’t have similar graphics to Halo 5: Guardians. The two games don’t exactly share the same game engine.

During E3 2014, we got our first look at the graphics for Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Halo 2 was remade for the Xbox One and looks much better than it did 10 years ago for the original Xbox console. Likewise, Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 3 and even Halo 4 will get visual upgrades thanks to the Xbox One’s new power.

Fans have been asking if the footage seen from Halo: The Master Chief Collection was a preview for what Halo 5: Guardians would look like. After all, Halo 5: Guardians gameplay footage won’t be seen until later this year when the beta goes live. Everyone is curious to see what the graphics might look like.

343 Industries Franchise Director Frank O’Connor reassured fans that Halo 5: Guardians will not be utilizing the same game engine as Halo: The Master Chief Collection. He said on NeoGAF explaining the differences: “Not technically. It’s a blend of legacy and some proprietary code. H5 is on a different schedule and couldn’t be branched for this.

Hopefully this is a sign that Halo 5: Guardians pushes the boundaries of the Xbox One hardware. Many people are eager to see what the game is actually going to look like.
