Nintendo CEO claims the Wii U will be reasonably priced at launch and that the company won’t make the same mistake it did with the 3DS.

Nintendo announced today that the upcoming New Super Mario Bros. 2 will have special paid DLC stages. These stages will arrive post-launch, and will dig into the game’s “Coin Rush” mode. No pricing details for the additional content was offered during the Nintendo Direct broadcast, and Iwata said that the paid DLC will be developed after the work on the main game has been completed.

Today’s Nintendo Direct conference revealed that Namco Bandai will be in charge of development for the next Smash Bros. title. The impending release of a new Smash Bros. game is no surprise, the game has already been announced to be in development for both the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U platforms.

In February 2011, Japan got Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask for 3DS. This November, Nintendo is bringing the title to North America. The information was divulged at this evening’s Nintendo Direct conference.

Nintendo’s president Satoru Iwata announed that Nintendo has a new 3DS hardware revision in the works, and will be releasing the 3DS LL in Japan and XL in the US on July 28th and August 19th respectively. The new hardware has a 4.88 inch upper screen and a 4.18 inch lower screen, which is a significant upgrade from the current 3DS hardware. Nintendo also announced that the new hardware will include a longer battery life than the current model.
