Infinity Ward prepping Call of Duty for Xbox 720 and PS4 releases

With generation offerings in the 'Xbox 720' and 'PS4' rumored for 2013, it would only seem appropriate that Infinity Ward be prepping a next generation Call of Duty title for these new consoles.

As Infinity Ward and Treyarch continue their every other year release schedule for the Call of Duty franchise, Activision is currently making plans for the next generation of games consoles for their popular shooter franchise. While this year will see the release of Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops II, what’ll arrive next is unclear. With Microsoft and Sony rumored to be releasing their next generation offerings in the ‘Xbox 720’ and ‘PS4’ respectively in 2013, it would only seem appropriate that Infinity Ward be prepping a next generation shooter for these new consoles.

This is in fact, what was recently found on Andrew Aye’s resume. Aye is a Lead Engineer for Infinity Ward, and currently has an “Unannounced Title” in the works. This next title will arrive on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC and a mysterious listing for platforms that have yet to be announced. These yet to be announced platforms could be a number of things. Aye could be alluding to the PlayStation Vita or Nintendo’s Wii U, but it would come as no surprise if Activision was preparing for a multi-pronged assault offering a current and next-generation version of their shooter if the Xbox 720 and PlayStation 4 arrived at or near the release of the next game.

The early goings of the current generation saw a similar approach taken by game developers and publishers. When the Xbox 360 arrived in 2005, many games saw dual releases on the Xbox and Xbox 360, with the Xbox 360 versions having some significant enhancements.

These aren’t the first rumblings that we’ve heard about a next-generation Call of Duty title. Back in January of 2012 job listings were found that pointed to Call of Duty on the Xbox 720 or PS4. Again in May, Activision was found seeking developers for a Treyarch led next-gen Call of Duty experience.
