Resident Evil 7 is less than two weeks away from release on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. To get fans even more excited for what is shaping up to be one of the biggest games of the year, Capcom has released a brand new Resident Evil 7 trailer, called “Welcome Home”. In the video, which you can check out below, you don’t get any gameplay, but you do get some very spooky footage that should get you prepared to face the horrors of the game.

And honestly, if you’re looking for gameply you’re better served just grabbing the demo that is available on all platforms. There you can experience first hand the major shift in tone and gameplay structure that Resident Evil 7 offers. The series had been skewing far more to the action side of the genre spectrum, and fans were becoming upset that the unique survival-horror gameplay was going away. Capcom seemed to hear their cries, because they’ve hit back hard with what’s looking like a truly terrifying experience.

Played entirely from a first-person perspective, RE7 is a huge change for the series, which began with fixed third-person cameras before redefining the over-the-shoulder angle seen in tons of games today. This first-person perspective also allows the game to be played in VR, though this is a PSVR exclusive feature for some time.

I’ve been able to play Resident Evil 7 at a couple of conventions, even naming it one of the best at E3 2016 and PAX West 2016. Everything I’ve seen so far has only made me more excited for this reinvention of a beloved series. Going back to true survival-horror is exactly what RE needed, so let’s hope that the full game lives up to expectations when it hits PS4, Xbox One, and PC on January 24th, 2017.
