Black Ops II team offers fixes for lag and latency in multiplayer

If you’ve been playing Call of Duty: Black Ops II multiplayer over the weekend, you may have noticed issues of lag and latency in the online shooter. Treyarch’s David Vonderhaar has offered some quick fixes for players who are seeing the problems consistently, and they boil down to changing some of the matchmaking settings for the game.

In Black Ops II, the developers moved to a different matchmaking system that focused on finding the best latency and ping for your Call of Duty experience. It appears that changing this setting in the Matchmaking search preferences will alleviate the problems for some.

Vonderhaar explained that users should “read the descriptions carefully in order to avoid waiting in a queue for an extended period and potentially never finding a lobby.” It’s prompted many to ask the developer why they decided to change the matchmaking system in the first place.

“No matter what forum post you read or what YouTube video you watched, connection is king at all times above all other criteria,” said Vonderhaar. “I assure you, at the time of the search, it’s putting you in the best lobby it can from the available search results.”
