Mike Johnson Just Declared The End Of The Democratic Party Over One NYC Mayor Endorsement, And Mamdani’s Response Is Brutal

This NYC endorsement has Johnson losing it.

House Speaker Mike Johnson said on Monday that the Democratic Party is basically finished. Why? Because House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries decided to back Zohran Mamdani for New York City mayor. Mamdani is a democratic socialist, and Johnson is not happy about it.

According to Fox News, Johnson was talking to reporters on Monday during the 27th day of the government shutdown. He went after Jeffries for supporting Mamdani and called it the “clearest sign yet that this radical insurgent movement in the Democrat Party is succeeding.” Johnson even called Mamdani a Marxist and said Democrats are giving in to the far left.

“Zohran Mamdani is expected to take the helm of one of the most important cities in the world and the largest city in America, and he now has the full blessing of the Democrat leader in the House of Representatives. It is shocking, and that leader and all the other Democrats are going to co-own the consequences of what they do to America’s largest city,” he said.

Johnson Got Roasted For Worrying About A Mayoral Race During A Shutdown

Mamdani hit back hard at Johnson on Monday. He said from Manhattan that the Speaker should be doing his actual job in Congress instead of going after a mayoral campaign. “Speaker Johnson should be sitting members of Congress, as opposed to using his time to try and attack our campaign,” Mamdani said.

“But I understand if I was one of the leaders of the Republican Party that had led a campaign that promised Americans a lower cost of living and cheaper groceries, and all I could deliver for them was a government shutdown, then I, too, would be looking to distract in any way that I could from those lack of results.”

The shutdown started because Democrats said no to a funding bill that did not include keeping Obamacare subsidies going. Those subsidies got bigger during COVID and are about to run out at the end of this year. Republicans got a temporary funding bill through the House back in September, but it went nowhere in the Senate.

Republicans have been pointing fingers at Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer for the shutdown. They think he is trying to make progressives in his party happy since Mamdani leads the mayoral race. Democrats say Republicans will be the ones to blame if healthcare gets more expensive because the subsidies disappear.

Jeffries took his time before finally backing Mamdani on Friday. He said good things about how Mamdani wants to help with affordability and work for all New Yorkers. Johnson told people that Mamdani is going to run one of the biggest and most important cities in America with full support from the top Democrat in the House.

Schumer still has not said he backs Mamdani. Some people think he is being careful because Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez might go after his Senate seat or try to become president in 2028. Republicans think Schumer is refusing to budge on the funding bill just to keep progressives on his side. Meanwhile, critics of Mamdani have already warned he may face serious opposition if he wins the election.
