‘It Really Felt Like The Titanic’: Luxury Florida Resort Floods As Guests Watch Furniture Swept Away In Viral Video

A fancy hotel in Boca Raton, Florida had a bad flooding problem over the weekend when a lot of rain hit the area. People staying at The Boca Raton hotel saw water break through windows and push furniture around the lobby floor.

Glen Fetzner went to the hotel for dinner plans. Things got bad very fast when flood water started filling up the building. “The window broke through, and it went from 1 foot to 3 feet in about a minute,” he told local outlet. 

According to People, another guest named Annekatrin Webber talked about how scary it was. “It really felt like the Titanic. Everything was flooded and the sofas were moving,” she said. Water came into the restaurant where people were eating and got about 2 to 3 inches high. Some people had to get up from their tables right away. Webber said workers helped her leave in a wheelchair so her nice shoes would not get ruined.

The Hotel Staff Handled The Chaos Pretty Well

Weather officials put out a flash flood warning for that part of Florida on Sunday night. They asked everyone to stay inside if they could. On Monday morning, more rain was coming. People at the hotel took videos that showed a whirlpool spinning in the middle of the lobby as more water kept coming in.

Even though the flooding looked really bad, the hotel’s CEO Daniel Hostettler said his workers did a good job dealing with it. He told CBS 12 that the managers working that evening stayed there all night long to help guests. Other managers came back to help clean up as soon as the roads were safe to drive on.

Hostettler was happy with how his team worked together. “The whole team from bus boys, to front desk managers, to managers, they were all chipped in, and they were calm,” he said. The good news is that nobody got hurt from the flooding. Guests did not have to move to other places and the water did not get into any of the hotel rooms. Everything else at the hotel kept working like normal.

The lobby opened back up on Tuesday morning after they put in new furniture. Someone speaking for the hotel said that the heavy rain caused some problems but things got back to normal pretty fast. Another spokesperson named Anne Marie Connolly told the South Florida Sun Sentinel that most of the water was gone by Monday morning.

Now the hotel wants to make sure this does not happen again. Hostettler said they are going to look at getting better flood barriers and other upgrades. He thinks the protection they already had worked okay because the water damage stayed mostly in the lobby. The city said no houses in the area got badly damaged.
