11 new releases are hitting Netflix this week, but here are the ones you shouldn’t skip

Christmas just got a whole lot better for Netflix users.

Netflix is adding 11 new TV shows and movies this week. The biggest highlight is the second part of the final season of Stranger Things, arriving just in time for the holidays. The streaming service has three major releases lined up, including the sci-fi hit and some exclusive NFL games.

Three brand new episodes of Stranger Things Season 5 will drop on Christmas Day, December 25. This second batch comes after the first four episodes of the final season, which came out on November 26. Netflix is giving fans a huge holiday gift with these new episodes.

The entire series will wrap up on December 31 with the final episode. According to TV Answer Man, this last episode will also play in select movie theaters, which is a nice touch for such a popular show. It’s one of the most highly-anticipated releases of the year.

Stranger Things wraps up its final season during the holidays

Stranger Things follows a mysterious young girl, played by Millie Bobby Brown, who opens a pathway between Earth and a dangerous alternate dimension called the Upside Down. Winona Ryder and David Harbour star alongside a group of teenagers who help clueless adults restore order. Seasons one through four, plus the first part of Season 5, are available on Netflix right now.

Netflix is also offering something for sports fans with an exclusive NFL Christmas Doubleheader. The streaming giant continues to expand its content lineup, even as Trump comments on potential merger deals that could shape the platform’s future. The games start on December 25, with the Dallas Cowboys playing the Washington Commanders at 1:00 PM ET. The Minnesota Vikings face the Detroit Lions at 4:30 PM ET.

The Vikings-Lions game is the one to watch. The Lions are 8-6 and fighting for a playoff spot, making this the day’s must-see matchup. This is a big move for Netflix to grab exclusive holiday sports content.

Before Christmas, the Netflix documentary Elway drops on Monday, December 22. This film shows a side of former Denver Broncos quarterback John Elway that goes beyond his stats. He was a Super Bowl champion known for last-minute drives and his powerful arm. The platform has been making waves with its documentary releases, alongside the Royal Family’s growing Netflix presence in recent productions.

The documentary reveals he was drafted by the New York Yankees to play baseball. Even more surprisingly, the Baltimore Colts drafted him for the NFL, but he refused to play for them. That refusal helped destroy that entire franchise. He later became a successful NFL executive, showing how varied his career was.
