President Trump has openly rejected his medical team’s advice to reduce his daily aspirin intake for cardiac health, explaining that he is “a little superstitious” about changing a routine he’s maintained for more than two decades, as per The Hill. The president currently insists on taking 325 milligrams of aspirin every day, which is significantly higher than the low dose typically recommended by doctors, which usually sits closer to 80 milligrams.
According to his physician, Sean Barbabella, the medical team “would rather have me take the smaller one.” President Trump, however, sticks to the larger dose, stating that he’s been doing it for years. The president explained his reasoning, saying that aspirin is known for thinning out the blood. “I don’t want thick blood pouring through my heart,” he insisted in a recent interview, adding that he wants “nice, thin blood pouring through my heart. Does that make sense?”
He did readily admit that the main consequence of taking the larger aspirin dose is visible bruising. The White House has previously attributed bruises that have appeared on the president’s hand to this very usage. However, President Trump is extremely confident in his condition. “My health is perfect,” he declared at the start of the interview. He is 79, making him the oldest person to assume the presidency last year, and questions about his health have naturally followed him throughout his second term.
Trump’s approach to his health is anything but science-driven
It’s no secret that the president isn’t a fan of traditional exercise, either. While he enjoys golf, he told reporters that he finds general working out “boring.” He specifically called out treadmills, saying that walking or running on a treadmill “for hours and hours like some people do, that’s not for me.”
The president also took the opportunity to clear up confusion regarding a recent medical visit to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center back in October. He clarified that he received a CT scan during that visit, not an MRI as had been reported earlier. He seems genuinely frustrated that the scan became public knowledge, noting that the exposure made people ask if “something’s wrong?” He feels he would have been “a lot better off” if the procedure hadn’t been reported at all.
Finally, President Trump addressed the various instances where cameras have appeared to catch him dozing off during recent events at the White House. He completely denied that he has been falling asleep. Instead, he claimed that he’s simply closing his eyes because he finds it “very relaxing.”
He suggested that photographers are just catching him at the wrong moment, explaining, “Sometimes they’ll take a picture of me blinking, blinking, and they’ll catch me with the blink.” That’s definitely one way to explain looking like you’re taking a power nap!
