President Trump has made at least $1.4 billion since taking office, and experts say the actual amount is likely much higher. This money came from using his presidential power and influence. The figure shows how much corporations, individuals, and foreign countries have paid to influence the government.
To put this in perspective, $1.4 billion equals 16,822 times the median household income in the United States. This massive sum breaks down into several categories of earnings. According to The New York Times, the biggest source of income has been cryptocurrency, which brought in at least $867 million for the Trump family.
These crypto ventures let people and foreign groups transfer money to the Trumps, often secretly. One public case involved a UAE-backed investment firm that announced plans to put $2 billion into a Trump company. This happened just two weeks before the president gave the UAE access to advanced computer chips.
Corporate settlements and foreign deals raise serious conflict of interest concerns
Since his re-election, major tech and media companies have paid Trump $90.5 million in settlements. None of these settlements were reportedly based on actual legal merit. The administration has faced scrutiny over various controversies, including the DOJ’s response to Trump-Epstein connections.
One major media company paid Trump $16 million over claims of deceptive editing in a 2024 interview with Kamala Harris, even though the editing was standard journalism practice. Three weeks later, the FCC approved an $8 billion merger for that same company.
An international retail giant paid $28 million for rights to a documentary about Melania Trump. The company paid far more than any other bidder and more than it has paid for similar projects before. The company’s chairman is one of the world’s richest people and faces possible antitrust regulation, defense contract bids, and federal contracts for his space company.
The Trump Organization is working on over 20 overseas projects that need cooperation from foreign governments. These deals have made the Trumps at least $23 million from licensing fees since his re-election. Projects include an office tower in western India, a hotel in Oman, and a golf course near Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The administration has sometimes treated these cooperating governments favorably. For example, the administration lowered threatened tariffs on Vietnam about a month after a Trump Organization project started on a $1.5 billion golf complex outside Hanoi.
Vietnamese officials even ignored their own laws to speed up the project. Qatar gave President Trump a $400 million Boeing 747 jet, which he plans to use as Air Force One and keep after leaving office for his presidential library. Trump appeared to acknowledge the gift’s influence, saying “We are going to protect this country” shortly after Qatar offered the plane. Meanwhile, international tensions remain high, as Iran’s media aired assassination attempt footage with threatening commentary.
