Sydney Sweeney could face criminal charges for what she left hanging on the Hollywood sign

She has knack for this, it seems.

Sydney Sweeney’s latest promotional effort for her new lingerie line has landed her in hot water, as she could be facing criminal charges after climbing the famous Hollywood sign, as reported by TMZ. Reports indicate the actress could be charged with criminal trespass or vandalism after she scaled the iconic Los Angeles landmark and left bras dangling from the structure.

Climbing and defacing the sign, even temporarily, is taken incredibly seriously in Los Angeles. The issue isn’t just the climbing itself, but the fact that her production team apparently went against specific instructions. Sweeney’s team did secure a permit from the local filming authority allowing them to shoot the Hollywood Sign for promotional purposes.

However, the permit made it explicitly clear that she did not have permission to actually touch or climb the sign itself. It seems like the permit truly had strings attached, just like the bras she left hanging. On top of violating the climbing rule, the owners of the Hollywood Sign had provided an email to her production company outlining another major restriction. They were specifically notified that they could not shoot the sign or use the resulting video footage without first securing prior approval from the owners.

If the company went ahead and used that footage, they could be facing even more trouble. It seems like poor planning when you know the rules and decide to ignore them for a stunt. You really have to wonder if the PR payoff is worth the potential fines and legal trouble.

So, why go to such extreme lengths? Sweeney was promoting the upcoming launch of her lingerie brand, “Syrn.” The brand is set to officially debut on Wednesday, January 28. This isn’t just a small side project, either; the brand has some serious financial backing, including support from Jeff Bezos. That high-profile connection is why Sweeney was invited to his wedding in Italy last summer.

This legal drama comes right on the heels of the biggest professional win of Sweeney’s career. Her newest film, The Housemaid, in which she stars alongside Amanda Seyfried, is doing phenomenal business. It’s expected to rake in a whopping $400 million at the global box office against a relatively small $25 million budget.

Looking ahead, Sweeney is still incredibly busy. Fans can expect to see her make a cameo appearance in the much-anticipated sequel, The Devil Wears Prada 2. She’s also set to reprise her breakthrough role as Cassie Howard in the third and final season of the hit series Euphoria. With her career truly soaring, hopefully, the legal team can quickly sort out this trespass and vandalism issue so she can get back to focusing on the highly anticipated launch of “Syrn.”

This isn’t the first time Sweeney has found herself in hot waters though. Recently, she posted a photo with freed Israeli hostages, which caused a lot of controversy. Going back, her American Eagles ad really divided her fan base with alleged Nazi dogwhistles being present in the jeans commercial.
