Minnesota town hall descends into chaos after attacker sprays Ilhan Omar with unknown liquid

She didn't let the bully win.

A town hall meeting for Rep. Ilhan Omar descended into chaos after a man sprayed her with an unknown liquid while she was speaking at the podium, as reported by The Hill. This is a truly awful and disruptive event, especially when elected officials are trying to connect directly with the public.

Despite the shocking nature of the attack, Congresswoman Omar showed serious resilience, immediately continuing the town hall and refusing to let the incident derail her work. Her office echoed that sentiment in a statement, confirming that the congresswoman was okay and stressing that she “doesn’t let bullies win.”

During the incident, a livestream showed the man standing and yelling at Omar, who was at the podium. He was then seen spraying her before members of the crowd and security swiftly tackled him to the ground. It seems like the people in attendance were definitely on her side, as members of the crowd cheered loudly as the man’s arms were being tied behind his back.

Omar quickly addressed the crowd following the confrontation, making it clear she wouldn’t be intimidated

“Here’s the reality that people like this ugly man don’t understand: We are Minnesota strong and we will stay resilient in the face of whatever they might throw at us,” she declared. Minneapolis Police were already on the scene providing security when the attack occurred. A spokesperson for the department confirmed that officers observed the man use a syringe to spray the unknown liquid onto the congresswoman.

The man was immediately arrested and booked into Hennepin County Jail. Authorities later identified the suspect as 55-year-old Anthony Kazmierczak and charged him with 3rd degree assault. Minneapolis Forensic Scientists responded to process the scene, hopefully determining exactly what that unknown liquid was.

U.S. Capitol Police released a statement calling the incident “an unacceptable decision that will be met with swift justice.” They stated they are now working with their federal partners to ensure this man faces “the most serious charges possible to deter this kind of violence in our society.” The attack occurred while Omar was discussing critical issues, including calling for Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to resign or face impeachment over her handling of recent shootings in Minneapolis.

President Trump has repeatedly targeted the congresswoman recently, particularly in the wake of a welfare fraud scandal impacting Minnesota. Just Monday, the president posted that the Department of Justice and Congress were actively “looking at” her. He specifically pointed to her financial status, stating, “Additionally, the DOJ and Congress are looking at “Congresswoman” Illhan Omar, who left Somalia with NOTHING, and is now reportedly worth more than 44 Million Dollars. Time will tell all.”

Omar later posted on social media to reassure the public that she was fine. She wrote, “I’m ok. I’m a survivor so this small agitator isn’t going to intimidate me from doing my work. I don’t let bullies win. Grateful to my incredible constituents who rallied behind me. Minnesota strong.”
