This stage 4 cancer patient expected a peaceful shopping trip with his wife, but one heated moment led to disputed assault claim

Very unfair for a patient who was already battling with a life-threatening disease.

We often hear about chaos in stores, sometimes involving notable people, such as a former NFL player who was previously caught stealing items from Kroger. However, finding a medically challenged person in the same situation is something that would be completely random for anyone. Unfortunately, this has happened to a stage 4 cancer patient in Costco whose only intention was to have a peaceful shopping trip with his wife.

Reported by Brobible, TikTok user Kayla Faber visited a Costco branch with her husband to do some shopping. The cancer patient, who was peacefully moving around the store with his wife, was later interrupted by a receipt checker who then turned the couple’s peace into chaos. He was wearing a backpack, holding only his medical essentials such as an oxygen tank, but the receipt insisted on checking it.

Faber, of course, didn’t like the employees’ demand. The wife said, “No, she could not go through his bag,’” and continued. “It was obviously just holding an oxygen tank and medical supplies.” This might have been enough for any receipt checker to apologize and let the couple go, but according to Faber, the employee “started screaming and got irate.” Eventually, this situation somehow backfired on the poor couple with an assault allegation.

We understand that the employee was just doing their job, but Faber’s case was different

Faber would have let the employee check her husband’s bag, but it was holding more than just an oxygen cylinder, which is better left unchecked. She said, “My husband had stage 4 terminal cancer. He’s in a wheelchair. He’s hooked up to oxygen—he is very obviously sick,” Faber then mentioned items from the bag. “The bag had a lot of sterile instruments that he was using at the time—things that people shouldn’t be touching with their hands.”

Replying to @legally_brunette_417 Costco and the police both deemed me innocent and agreed no assault occurred. I was never given an apology even till I uploaded my 1st video. My husband passed 16 days after this. It was our kar shopping experience. #widowsoftiktok #widow #widowed #costco

Even if you are suffering from a disease, a receipt checker might still observe, as they are hired for a reason. But in Kayla’s case, where her husband can be seen moving on a wheelchair while she explains how his backpack contains sensitive medical essentials, the employee should have been patient. Instead, she did something completely unexpected and screamed, “Help! Help! This woman just hit me! She assaulted me!”

This was indeed random, but Faber said she had been filming the entire drama and could easily prove the employee wrong with strong evidence. The scene then came to an end, but the wife still reached out to the authorities, who further confirmed that this is clearly not an assault case after reviewing her footage.

Kayla’s husband has sadly passed away. Costco, which also blasted Trump’s ‘emergency’ tariffs, didn’t reach out to her at the time, but has finally communicated. The manager has apologized to her and said that the branch has been under new management since the incident. Faber also said, “They’re gonna look into this further and then call me back at the end of the week.”

According to her, she didn’t want anything but accountability. It looks like Costco has already admitted its mistake, but this situation was indeed scary and hurtful for the couple.
