Marjorie Taylor Greene unleashed a scathing critique of President Trump’s Easter message regarding Iran. She went as far as to label him “insane” and declared he is “not a Christian,” making a dramatic call for his cabinet members to seek divine forgiveness.
Early Sunday morning, President Trump took to his Truth Social platform with a rather aggressive post. He wrote, “Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the F—in’ Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell – JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah. President DONALD J. TRUMP.” This message, coming on Easter, clearly struck a nerve with Greene.
Less than two hours after President Trump’s post went live, Greene shared a screenshot of it on X. Her accompanying text reads, “On Easter morning, this is what President Trump posted.” She continued, directly addressing his administration: “Everyone in his administration that claims to be a Christian needs to fall on their knees and beg forgiveness from God and stop worshipping the President and intervene in Trump’s madness. I know all of you and him and he has gone insane, and all of you are complicit.”
This isn’t the first time President Trump has issued such stern warnings to Iran
Just the day before, on Saturday morning, he had posted on Truth Social that Iran had a mere 48 hours to open the Strait of Hormuz “before all Hell will reign down on them.” He emphasized this ultimatum by adding, “Glory be to GOD!” This followed an earlier post where he referenced giving Iran “ten days to MAKE A DEAL or OPEN UP THE HORMUZ STRAIT.”
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical maritime passageway, especially for the global oil industry. Roughly one-fifth of the world’s oil supply passes through this narrow choke point. Since the conflict with Iran escalated in late February, the strait has been effectively closed due to Iran’s restrictions on shipping. This closure has had a direct impact on global energy prices, leading to noticeable increases at gas pumps, even here in the U.S.
Greene, however, sees the situation very differently. She argued that the Strait isn’t closed because of Iranian aggression, but rather because the U.S. and Israel initiated an “unprovoked war against Iran based on the same nuclear lies they’ve been telling for decades, that any moment Iran would develop” a nuclear weapon.
She added a pointed question: “You know who has nuclear weapons? Israel.” Greene believes Israel is “more than capable of defending themselves without the US having to fight their wars, kill innocent people and children, and pay for it.” This perspective highlights her consistent criticism of the U.S. involvement in the conflict.
This strong stance from Greene isn’t new; she has frequently criticized President Trump and the Israeli government since the conflict officially began on February 28. She’s been particularly vocal in accusing the president of betraying his core MAGA base by initiating yet another U.S. war in the Middle East.
You might remember Greene’s falling-out with President Trump last year. Their disagreements stemmed from several issues, including her break with the president over his authorization of strikes on Iran and his handling of files related to the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. This led to President Trump publicly renouncing his support for Greene in November, which then spurred her departure from Congress in January.
President Trump has been quite vocal about his anger towards NATO countries that rely heavily on energy exports from the Strait of Hormuz. He has actively sought to compel U.S. allies to intervene in the region, pushing for a united front. However, these countries haven’t always fallen in line with his demands. For instance, the United Kingdom recently brought together 41 countries to discuss strategies for reopening the strait, placing the blame squarely on Tehran for holding the international economy “hostage.”
U.S. allies have also expressed significant frustration over the joint U.S.-Israeli military operations in Iran. A major point of contention has been the perceived lack of planning to keep the strait open, as well as the absence of coordination with allies before the initial strikes were even launched.
French President Emmanuel Macron, for example, has openly criticized the conflict. He definitively shot down President Trump’s push for European nations to engage in offensive operations to reopen the Strait, stating, “They cannot then complain about not being supported in an operation they decided on their own. It is not our operation.”
