WNBA star Natasha Cloud didn’t hold back, delivering a scathing social media critique of President Trump after he posted a controversial message aimed at Iran on Easter Sunday. Cloud’s response directly challenged President Trump’s self-proclaimed faith, calling into question his actions as a “man of Christ.”
Earlier on Easter morning, President Trump took to social media with an expletive-filled post that vowed significant military action against the Middle Eastern nation. He wrote, “Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the F’ Strait, you crazy b, or you’ll be living in Hell – JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah.” It’s quite a message to put out on a holiday.
Cloud, a New York Liberty player known for her outspoken views, quickly fired back on Threads. According to Daily Mail, she posted a powerful retort, stating, “A sitting president who claims to be ‘a God fearing man’ to be tweeting on Easter Sunday that he will bomb Iran’s infrastructure IS NOT A MAN OF CHRIST.”
Mixing religion and war talk like this just feels off
She didn’t stop there, adding a historical context: “A reminder that yes Jesus died for our sins, but He was murdered by….the governing Authority. He did not follow THEIR law, because THEIR law is not Gods law. A part we TOO often just pass over. HE IS RISEN.” This really drives home her point about the disconnect she perceives. This isn’t the first time Cloud has expressed her strong disapproval of President Trump.
Her recent comments follow a pattern of candid remarks, including previous instances where she voiced her disdain and even made threats against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and President Trump himself. Last year, she referred to President Trump as “Donny” and warned of severe consequences if ICE agents were to attempt operations in New York City.
She stated, “If Donny wants to come down here, if ICE wants to try and come down here, that’s fine. But [they’re] going to learn the hard way… New Yorkers really don’t f around. They don’t play about one another. The don’t play about this city.” Cloud also gained attention in July 2023 after a Supreme Court decision overturned protections for minorities in college admissions, just before Independence Day.
Identifying herself as “a proud black gay woman,” she openly criticized the United States, calling it “trash in so many ways.” She elaborated on her frustrations in several posts, saying, “Our country is trash in so many ways and instead of using our resources to make it better we continue to oppress Marginalized groups that we have targeted since the beginning of times. Black/brown communities& LGBTQ+ man we are too powerful to still be attacking issues separate.”
She continued to share her disappointment with the nation’s direction, writing, “Imagine having all the power and resources to be great. I’m talking about everybody eats. Then imagine wasting it on hateful ideologies. Imagine weaponizing religion. That is America.”
Cloud concluded, “We are a hateful disappointment. That’s the truth. We have the potential to be great And we waste it. Waste it trying to control what we don’t understand.” Cloud, was drafted into the WNBA by the Washington Mystics in 2015. She played with the Mystics for four years, helping them secure a WNBA title in 2019.
Beyond her time in Washington, she has also played for the Phoenix Mercury and is currently with the New York Liberty, alongside stints playing professionally in Turkey and Australia.
