Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman issued a sharp critique of his own party, stating that Democrats and the American media are actively undermining efforts to topple the Iranian regime, Fox News reported. This move positions the Pennsylvania Democrat as a clear outlier within his caucus, as he continues to break ranks regarding the administration’s military strategy in the Middle East. Fetterman is currently the only Democrat in Congress who has openly expressed support for the ongoing operation known as Epic Fury.
Fetterman made his frustrations with his colleagues known: “Iran must be so excited by the American media and the Democratic Party.” The senator argued that his party has lost sight of the primary objective, which is preventing Iran from becoming a nuclear power. He expressed a deep concern that the political focus has shifted away from the actual threat posed by the regime. “It’s almost as if we’ve forgotten, on the Democratic side, that the real enemy, the real threat, the real danger is Iran and its proxies too,” he added.
Fetterman’s stance is particularly notable because it directly contradicts the narrative pushed by other senior Democratic leadership. While Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer recently referred to the conflict as a war of choice and questioned the efficacy of the current administration’s approach, Fetterman has taken the opposite view. Fetterman stated that the military actions taken by the Trump administration have actually made the world safer.
Fetterman argued that the regime in Iran only responds to strength and that recent strikes have caused significant damage to its nuclear ambitions
The senator highlighted that Israeli operations have successfully targeted and neutralized many of the scientists and facilities tied to Iran’s nuclear program. While he acknowledged that there are still concerns regarding remaining enriched uranium, he maintains that the regime’s overall capabilities have been weakened. “Every single thing Iran has done is an entire war crime. Now, we are the force of good in the world,” he noted.
A major point of contention is the upcoming 60-day deadline regarding the War Powers Resolution. Democrats are currently organizing a pressure campaign to check the president’s authority and force a vote to terminate unauthorized military action. Fetterman has made it clear that he opposes these efforts, arguing that they would effectively sabotage a mission that is still in progress.
He pointed out that the operation is less than 40 days old and that forcing a new vote at this stage is counterproductive. “I will vote against that now, because we have to stand [behind] our military to allow them to accomplish, you know, the goals of Epic Fury,” he stated.
Beyond the military strategy, Fetterman criticized the left for what he perceives as a lack of moral consistency. He specifically pointed to the reports that eight Iranian women are currently facing the threat of execution by the regime.
“People on the left aren’t talking about that. Why aren’t they protesting that Iran’s about to hang women in Iran? They are the evil regime…” he said. While President Donald Trump has called for the release of these women ahead of upcoming talks in Pakistan, Iranian officials have denied that the death penalty is being pursued in these cases.
Fetterman’s focus remains firmly on the long-term danger of a nuclear-armed Iran. He believes that the current inflection point in the Middle East requires firm action rather than empty political rhetoric. He expressed a personal commitment to his position, even if it leaves him isolated among his Democratic peers. “That’s my real concern, and I don’t ever want to be on the wrong side of history to say, ‘I’m going to walk away from it…'” he explained.
He reiterated that he is prepared to support the operation regardless of where the rest of his party lands on the issue. “I’m firmly on the side of Israel, I’m firmly on this side of [opposing Iran],” he stated. Fetterman remains adamant that the goal of preventing a nuclear bomb is not a radical idea, and he intends to keep pushing for accountability until the mission is complete.
