Keo Nottage is currently held without bond at the Palm Beach County Jail following a violent incident that left his 74-year-old grandmother in critical condition. The event occurred on May 10, when authorities from the West Palm Beach Police Department arrived at a home on 52nd Street at 1:26 PM to respond to reports of a stabbing.
According to Fox News, the trouble began after the grandmother and another grandson returned home from shopping for a Mother’s Day dinner. When they asked Nottage to help them bring the groceries inside, the situation escalated quickly. According to the victim, Nottage became agitated and stated, “Someone is going to die today,” before he went into the kitchen to grab a knife. He then allegedly stabbed his grandmother approximately 11 times.
It is a terrifying scenario, and the injuries were severe enough to require an immediate trauma alert. Emergency responders described the scene over the radio, noting, “Rescue 3 is going to have a trauma alert coming by ground reference to a stabbing” and “There’s about seven stab wounds in the torso, in the left shoulder and arm.” The victim was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital, where she underwent surgery. Investigators have expressed uncertainty regarding whether she will survive her injuries.
Imagine being stabbed 11 times for asking your grandson for help
The violence did not stop with the grandmother. Nottage’s cousin, who witnessed the attack, attempted to intervene to help the victim. Nottage allegedly turned his attention toward the cousin and threatened him with the knife as well. Fortunately, the cousin was able to escape the house and call for help. When officers arrived, they found Nottage in the driveway involved in a physical altercation with that same cousin.
Nottage appeared in court on Monday to face charges of attempted first-degree premeditated murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. During the proceedings, he asked about his own charges, stating, “What are my charges? Attempted first-degree murder and aggravated assault.” He also confirmed his identity when asked, saying, “Keo Nottage? Yes, that’s my name. OK, thank you.” Deputies eventually removed him from the courtroom after he caused several interruptions.
Court records indicate that this is not the first time police have been called to this residence regarding Nottage. In a 2021 case, the grandmother told investigators that Nottage struggles with mental health issues and has been baker-acted previously. It is a deeply concerning history that adds another layer of complexity to this entire situation. This tragedy comes as crimes against the elderly are reportedly on the rise, adding a sobering layer of complexity to the situation.
For now, Nottage remains in custody without bond as he awaits an Arthur hearing. It is difficult to process how a simple request for help with groceries could spiral into such an extreme act of violence. The focus remains on the recovery of the grandmother, who is still fighting for her life in the hospital.
We can only hope that the legal process provides some form of resolution for the family involved in this tragic case.
