The Wii U has had a mixed reception. From launch problems with firmware, to fans lacking confidence in the console’s capability to compete with next-gen offerings like the Xbox 720 and PS4, the new console has seen no shortage of criticism. Some of this criticism is already calling for the death of the console, if analyst sentiment is any indication.
However, Shigeru Miyamoto has a different view on the Wii U, and isn’t ready to start worrying about the new console’s long-term viability just yet. In a recent interview, Miyamoto explained that the Wii U has a long future ahead of it.
“I think that the Wii U has a long future… We really view it as being the ideal device that families are going to want to have connected to that screen in the living room that everyone is going to gather around and watch.”
Though this doesn’t appear to be the case when looking at sales for the device. Miyamoto addressed the low sales figures, but relayed that he is not yet concerned with the lack of momentum for the Wii U. This could be because Nintendo has yet to start unleashing their first party games on the console. Titles like Pikmin 3 and others, should give the Wii U the boost it so desperately needs on the software side of things.
