Back when the PS4 was revealed earlier this year, Sony demonstrated unique functionality between the new console and the PS Vita. Game streaming and off-screen functions showed a lot of promise for the handheld as a companion device. According to an interview with Sony, the PS Vita was designed with the PlayStation 4 in mind, more so than the PS3.
The fact is the PS Vita was developed for PS4, more so than PS3
“The fact is the PS Vita was developed for PS4, much more than PS3… but now we go into the PS4 era, that companion device will look far more clear. We’re optimistic it’s got a lot more legs left in it and the PS4 has given it a shot in the arm.”
It’s still yet to be seen whether Vita sales will rise with the release of the PS4. PS Vita players who are still looking for platform specific games had a lot to look forward to after E3 2013. Media Molecule’s TearAway, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackwatch, Flower, Hotline Miami, and a ton of other content is on the way, for those that are all about the games.
Sony has been pointing to the future for quite some time with their handheld which has been struggling against the Nintendo 3DS. Despite what’s coming down the line for the handheld, many believe the PS Vita’s true saving grace will be a price cut.
