Sony will be pushing out the latest system update for the PS Vita very shortly, introducing some new capabilities to allow Sony’s portable console to interact with the PlayStation 4 when it is released next week in the U.S.

The main new feature in this latest update is the introduction of the PS4 Link application, which will allow PS Vita gamers to connect to their PlayStation 4 for either remote play or second screen action.

The Friends app has also been overhauled to make it easier to use, and the Party app has also been updated to allow it to interact with PlayStation 4 parties. Panoramic photographs can also be created now with the Photos app and a new Parental Controls app has been introduced.

Reflecting the same change recently made to the PS3, PS Vita system software updates can now be downloaded automatically by non-PS+ members.

All these new capabilities also means the introduction of two new app icons. So unfortunately with the PS Vita’s 100-app limit on the homescreen, app-heavy users are going to need to pick two apps to get kicked off the island.
