Final Fantasy XIV Could Come To Xbox One, Under One Condition

We are just about at the one year anniversary of the release of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, which launched last year for PC and PlayStation 3, with the release on PlayStation 3 coming earlier this year. This follows the trend by Final Fantasy XI of staying as a Sony exclusive on consoles, but that may not always be the case according to Square Enix.

In an interview at Gamescom with Dualshockers, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Director and Producer Naoki Yoshida said he was ready to make an Xbox One version of the game at any time. However, the ball is in Microsoft’s court, as Yoshida said they would not do it until Microsoft allowed the ability to play on cross-platform servers. All of the current versions of the game are able to be played with one another, regardless of the platform, so this makes total sense.

Yoshida himself said that Microsoft was too focused on exclusives right now and the holiday season as a whole, so he did not see anything happening on this front until after that. In fact, he said he believes the Mac version will make it out before an Xbox One version likely would. Yoshida also said that he would go ahead and make the Xbox One version for when they allow cross-platform servers, but he isn’t allowed to do that until Microsoft gives the okay.

Yoshida ended this portion of the interview by encouraging fans to let Microsoft know that they want Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn on Xbox One and hopefully that will help. For those that are interested in the game, the only ways to play Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, or PC, but hopefully we will see these other platforms in the near future.
