Nintendo certainly has not had the best couple of years, majorly hit by the struggles of the Wii U since launch in late 2012. After posting a loss last quarter, Nintendo has surprisingly turned things around and managed to post a profit in Q2, according to the latest financial report from the company.
Spanning July to September, Nintendo posted a profit that helped to make up for the Q1 that saw a loss. From April to September, spanning Q1 and Q2, the company posted a net profit of 14,300 million yen. This is a major upgrade from the same period last year that instead saw a only a 600 million yen profit.
The Wii U specifically saw an increase of more than double what it had during the same stretch of six months last year, with 1.12 million Wii U consoles sold instead of only 460,000 last year. The 3DS is quite the opposite, with a drop from 3.89 million last year to 2.09 million in the same amount of time this year. This could easily turn around with the release of the New Nintendo 3DS in early 2015 though.
This increase in Wii U numbers comes during the time when Mario Kart 8 and Hyrule Warriors released and little else, but with Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and amiibos on the horizon, the sales should continue to grow this holiday season and could very well now exceed internal projections.
