Australia looks like it’s on a Grand Theft Auto V banning spree as the Australian Kmart is now no longer selling the game.
It was only revealed just yesterday that Target retailers in Australia were pulling Grand Theft Auto off of shelves. This comes just a few days after New Zealand retailers “The Warehouse” and “Noel Leeming” decided to no longer sell R18 material.
A Kmart representative confirmed its ban of Grand Theft Auto V to Kotaku. A “review” was done for the game that prompted the retailer to “remove this product immediately“.
It’s kind of sad that the country of Australia fought so hard to get the R18 rating for video games which was passed in 2013. Now they face an even bigger obstacle with major retailers no longer wanting to stock violent video games like Grand Theft Auto V.
As I mentioned in a previous post, Grand Theft Auto V’s new FPS mode could be to blame. The retailers had no problem last year selling the original PS3/Xbox 360 versions of the game.
It is worth mentioning that Kmart and Target are both owned by Wesfarmers. Wesfarmers had to pull the game off of shelves due to consumer feedback from parents and other concerned parties.
