Microsoft’s all-out push to put Xbox Ones in consumer homes this holiday has been a success. Â A combination of enticing bundles, slashed prices, and a great line-up of games in November, saw the Xbox One edging out the PS4 in sales for the first time in a while.
According to SCE CEO Andrew House, Microsoft made conditions “tougher”, according to an interview with Reuters. Â The report suggests that Sony’s November sales were in line with company projections, but that the aggressive price cuts by Microsoft were the reason for the drop.
House also revealed that PS4 could be hard to find in Europe this holiday season. Â He says that while Sony is fighting to keep up with demand, the region could be “inventory challenged.”
2014 has been a banner year for the PlayStation 4. Â The company outsold the Xbox One handily, which spurred Microsoft to make a number of changes to their Xbox One offerings. Â Micrsosoft’s response included a decoupling of the Kinect camera from all Xbox One consoles, pack-in games for almost every purchase, and lower prices which made the PS4 the more costly alternative during the holiday shopping season.
2015 looks to be a year where Sony strikes again, however. Â A number of big exclusives are due on the console (Uncharted 4, Bloodborne, The Order: 1886), rumors are swirling about a price drop of their own, and the company continues to offer the best value in their PlayStation Plus Instant Game Collection.
