The Last Of Us Sequel Isn’t Coming Anytime Soon, If Ever

The Last of Us released over a year and a half ago, with the remastered version coming just this past summer. Ever since the release, gamers have been dying to hear news of a possible sequel to the game, as it appears we won’t be getting any further story DLC beyond Left Behind for the original. However, it sounds like we will be waiting quite awhile according to an interview with Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley.

Whether a followup on the characters of the first or a brand new story in the same universe, it sounds like a sequel isn’t happening anytime soon. Druckmann and Straley discussed this in further detail in an audio interview with Game Informer, which was luckily transcribed by GameSpot.

When asked about a potential The Last of Us 2, Druckmann said it was a “big if” at this point, as “”We’re 110 percent in Uncharted 4 territory now. Blinders on, make this awesome.” He went into further detail as to whether they even though it should have a sequel by saying the following:

“We totally get it, because we have those same feelings as well. We have brainstormed sequel ideas for The Last of Us, and we’ve brainstormed ideas for new games, but all of that is put on ice right now while we work on Uncharted 4.”

Lastly, Druckmann said that they would most definitely not be okay with a sequel being made that wasn’t with them at the helm. If we do get a sequel, it certainly sounds like it will be a long time away regardless.
