Microsoft shocked the gaming industry when it was revealed that they had secured at least timed exclusivity on the upcoming Rise of the Tomb Raider. Set to arrive later this year, it is already one of the most hyped games of the holiday season and we have finally learned more about it courtesy of Game Informer, with Rise of the Tomb Raider gracing their March cover.
2013’s Tomb Raider put Lara on the mysterious island of Yamatai, where she had to navigate a variety of different environments to survive. Rise of the Tomb Raider looks to build on that solid foundation with even more exploration throughout. Siberia is an entirely different monster than what we saw from Yamatai, with Lara looking to traverse plenty of new environments. One of the few complaints about the first game was the lacking number of tombs to raid, but that appears to not be the case in the sequel.
The first game did a fantastic job at making Lara Croft into a very human character, as we saw her go through the pain and torture of the island. Luckily, it sounds like they are making a point to keep that around in Rise of the Tomb Raider as well, according to creative director Noah Hughes.
“It’s important for us to capture those moments where Lara is uncertain about her identity, her direction, or her ability to come out alive.”
Rise of the Tomb Raider is set to launch later this year for both Xbox One and Xbox 360. Stay tuned for even more information on the game as the month goes on, with Game Informer set to unveil new info all month long.
