Final Fantasy Type-0 HD finally arrived for current-gen platforms in the West yesterday alongside the even more anticipated Final Fantasy XV demo, titled Episode Duscae. The hype was so much to the point that droves of people likely bought the full $60 Type-0, which was a fantastic game in of itself, just for the demo. Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata had previously said that the demo would not be 1080p, but with the release we have learned that the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the demo are not equal.
Due to the deadline of getting the demo out in time for Type-0’s release, there was little doubt that it would be anywhere near perfect, which is definitely the case with some frame rate and other issues. Through direct-feed images of both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the Final Fantasy XV demo that have been accessed via the official release of the demo, we now have a better picture of the resolution situation.
From those at Beyond3D, which have a history of taking images and deciphering them for resolution, it appears that the PlayStation 4 version of the Final Fantasy XV demo clocks in at 900p, while the Xbox One version is somewhere around 800p. Considering games like Titanfall saw their beta on Xbox One come in at 792p, and the actual release of Watch Dogs even was 900p on PlayStation 4 and 792p on Xbox One, this isn’t a major surprise.
Either way, we have a good ways to go until the actual release of Final Fantasy XV, even if it somehow ends up releasing before the year is over, which is plenty of time for them to get the full game at a higher resolution. However, for now it appears that the PlayStation 4 version is the better of the two from a resolution standpoint, though it isn’t a major difference at this point.
