The Xbox One should be getting an updated, faster UI in a future update according to recent tweets by Phil Spencer. When asked if the Xbox One Dashboard would use DirectX 12, Spencer responded that it would “take full advantage of platform features.” This will bring a lot of great new elements to the Dashboard, but one thing that seems to be a focus is the speed of the UI. Spencer wrote “Speeding up the UI is high on our list of improvements we want to make.”
Speeding up the UI is high on our list of improvements we want to make.
The idea of updating and changing the base system UI is still relatively new for console gaming, only coming into prominence last generation with the PS3 and Xbox 360. The latter of those saw a few major shifts in the style of the Dashboard, eventually settling on something similar to the current Xbox One UI. Gamers who shifted to the Xbox One have largely felt that the newer interface is an improvement, but some features were sluggish and hard to manage upon launch.
Many of these have been changed and fixed in recent updates, but an overall slowness has been brought up on occasion. Updating the Xbox One Dashboard to DX12 will already give Microsoft more options for features. Them putting a focus on the speed of the UI should please a lot of fans even more though.
