Xbox One Top Selling Console in April According to NPD

Xbox One has been getting dominated by Sony’s PlayStation 4 in recent month, but apparently the company has pulled ahead in April.  Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg has revealed to his followers on Twitter.

Greenberg thanked fans for their support on Twitter, “Another big thanks to our fans for making us the #1 selling console in April according to NPD.”  The numbers for Sony, Nintendo, and software haven’t squirted out yet, but we’ll add more to this as they come in.

Sony had been winning NPD each month since Microsoft slashed the price of the Xbox One this holiday season.

Update:  Sony and Microsoft have issued statements regarding April’s NPD data.

“As the best-selling console in the U.S. in April, fans set record April sales and engagement for Xbox One last month. Xbox One console sales in the U.S. increased 63 percent in April 2015 compared to April 2014 and Xbox Live comparisons showed the number of active global users (Xbox One and Xbox 360) grew 24 percent. We are grateful to our fans for their passion and support and are looking forward to sharing more on the best game lineup in Xbox history at E3,” according to Microsoft’s Mike Nichols.

As for Sony, while the company did not beat Microsoft in hardware sales this month, they did continue to be the leader in software sales for April, and are the cumulative sales leader in the U.S.
