In the latest issue of Edge Magazine, an interview with SCE Worldwide Studios President, Shuhei Yoshida talks a bit about how The Last Guardian ended up on PlayStation 4.

The Sony President talked about how porting The Last Guardian from PlayStation 3 to PlayStation 4 was actually a tough job. In his own words:

“really, really tough. Especially because we were not sure if the game could be made. Tech issues aside, the game was still early in development, so we had to have a really strong desire to continue the project and rebuild on PS4. And of course we believed in the vision of Ueda-san, and Ueda-san and the core teams really wanted to see this realised, and so did I. Having so many people asking us about the game was great encouragement for us to continue the development.”

Fans should be glad that the tech issues have been worked out and that despite the game being so early in development it is great to hear that Sony still listens to the fans. Given that it is one title that had a vast amount of outcry for it, it would have been stupid if Sony ended up killing The Last Guardian. However, Yoshida explains that it was at one point a possibility if fans haven’t been so adamant about it.

“If everyone stopped asking about it, probably we would have.”

Thankfully fans continued to poke at Sony wondering where the game was in development and it showed up at their E3 2015 conference to everyone’s surprise. The Last Guardian is scheduled to release for PlayStation 4 in 2016.
