Sony had a pretty solid lineup of exclusives to start out 2015 with Bloodborne and The Order: 1886, after a very slow Holiday Season exclusives wise. It’s only been a few months since both of their releases and while one did exceptionally well, the other underwhelmed and has now received a permanent price drop.
The Order: 1886 launched back in late February and quickly had a lot of controversy surrounding it for its length. This certainly did not help with sales, as they were disappointing from the start.
Finishing only at #8 on the monthly NPDs for February, The Order: 1886 fell behind games like Dragon Ball Xenoverse that launched even later. For an even better comparison, it was beaten handily by The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D, which is also only available on one platform as well.
Sony parted ways with The Order: 1886’s developer Ready at Dawn soon after and now has permanently dropped the MSRP of the game by 33% to $39.99. The game has been cheaper than this in the past, being only $19.99 at Best Buy a couple weeks ago, so it’s only going to drop further it seems.
The Order: 1886 was the first true failure of an exclusive for the PS4 and while it was short, it is disappointing that we may never see a more fleshed out sequel to this universe.
