There’s only two more characters left to be announced in Street Fighter 5. The final characters will not be from Street Fighter 2.
Outerheaven Productions (via IGN) interviewed Street Fighter 5 Brand Director Matt Dahlgren at NYCC over the weekend.
Dahlgren said there are two more characters left to be announced for the game’s launch roster. One will be all-new, while the other is a classic from another Street Fighter game.
When asked if the other classic fighter will be from Street Fighter 2, Dahlgren replied “not necessarily“. This means the classic character could be from Street Fighter 3 or the Alpha series. They could also add someone from Street Fighter 4 too as well.
Many people are speculating the last classic character could be Alex from Street Fighter 3. There is a level where people see someone that looks like Alex appearing in the background. Whether or not he is playable remains to be seen.
It appears Capcom wants to make the launch roster a little bit more diverse than in the fourth game. The fourth game’s launch roster was pretty much just a Street Fighter 2 reunion. The fifth game has more Alpha characters plus a few new characters too.
16 characters will be available at launch, but more will be added in as DLC.
