Final Fantasy brand manager, Shinji Hashimoto, attended the Lucca Comics & Games 2016 in Italy recently and in a panel he talked about the future of the franchise.

Silconera posted some highlights of the panel that Hashimoto attended. He said some interesting things about future games as well as hypothetical ones.

In terms of the FF7 Remake, he said that he urges fans to be patient in terms of hearing of more news about it. He also said that it’s just rumors that the game has a 2017 release date. Square Enix has yet to announce any sort of release window.

The FF12 Remaster “The Zodiac Age” is also on the way. Square Enix has yet to decide on a release date, but he expects one to be announced soon since it’s the 10th anniversary of that particular game.

Hashimoto then talked about hypothetical Final Fantasy sequels such as X-3 and even the 16th main entry iteration. Speaking about X-3, he said development for a sequel cannot proceed yet as Tetsuya Nomura and Yoshinori Kitase are occupied with both FF7 Remake and Kingdom Hearts 3. Fans will have to wait longer for a sequel, although characters such as Yuna and Tidus are still popular. Another popular character is Lightning and she will live on, even though he said there won’t be any more XIII sequels.

He also confirmed that they haven’t started work on, or thought about, Final Fantasy 16 yet. This is obvious since they’ve been working hard just to finish off number 15. He said whoever the director will be, it might be different to 15 and the gameplay will be determined by the system and generation its released on.
