The release date for Yooka-Laylee has finally been announced. Sadly, due to all the delays the Wii U version has been cancelled in favor for the Nintendo Switch.
Playtonic Games has announced on its official website that Yooka Lay-Lee will have a worldwide release date of April 11th, 2017 for Xbox One, PC, Mac, PS4 and Linux.
Starting from today, you can now pre-order the game if you aren’t a Kickstarter backer. Both physical and digital versions will be available for you to purchase worldwide.
Sadly, the Wii U version has been cancelled. This is due to “unforeseen technical issues” so they can sadly never release the game on the Wii U.
It’s not all bad news because they have decided to release Yooka-Laylee for the Nintendo Switch instead. More details about the Switch version will be revealed next year. You have to stay tuned for the Switch release date and gameplay details.
If you are a Kickstarter backer that wanted the game on Wii U, you can change your order free of charge. You can either upgrade to the PS4, Xbox One, PC, Mac or Linux on April 11th or get the Switch version. Again, no release date has been given for the Switch version, but it could be out just after April.
If you pre-order the game, you get access to the Toybox. This allows you to play around with the platform mechanics in a spoiler free environment. On Steam and GOG.com, you can also get the Digital Deluxe version of the game that includes a digital soundtrack and manual/artbook.
Yooka-Laylee is developed by some of the same people that worked on the original Banjo Kazooie video games. Since Microsoft and Rare aren’t doing anything with Banjo Kazooie, Yooka-Laylee was born for those that want a similar experience.
