Sony has confirmed the release of an exclusive Nier:Automata themed PS4 for Japan after teasing some prototypes the week prior.  Titled the “Emil Edition”, the Playstation 4 console comes in a sleek jet black color with Emil’s face smiling eerily, looking more like a large moon donned on the front side.  This special edition PS4 will be launching along side the game when it releases on February 23.

Two versions will be released, a 500GB HDD at 33,480 yen and a 1TB HDD costing 38,480 yen respectively.  Not only that, each version will come with a Nier: Automata-themed top cover as well as an exclusive wallpaper.  Though not bundled with the actual game, the console will include a DualShock 4 controller, monaural headset, power cord, HDMI cable, and USB cable for battery charge.

Just weeks away from launching, Nier: Automata looks to be a promising game from Square Enix.  During the live stream last week, developers showed more gameplay footages featuring the protagonist YoRHa 2B flying through the sky in robot form as she battled a monstrous machine.  The combat system was also expanded on demonstrating different combos.  The Emil inspirations were also displayed as the company announced a Monster Hunter Frontier Z collaboration where characters can host Emil in game.

Emil is an important character in the original Nier series, a young boy who later on becomes cursed gaining the ability to turn anyone who meets him in the eye to stone.  He transforms into a skeleton-like creature acquiring power magic abilities, which explains the odd artwork painted on the front plate.  It appears Emil will be making an appearance in Nier: Automata and will perhaps play a crucial role in the overall story of the game.

Though there’s no word if the Emil edition PS4 will be released outside of Japan, Nier: Automata will be launching in Japan on February 23 with North American release on March 7 and in Europe March 10.  A PC version is currently in the works for a 2017 slate.
