Final Fantasy 15 Isn’t Planned For A Nintendo Switch Release

Final Fantasy 15 finally launched at the end of last year, bringing PlayStation 4 and Xbox One gamers the long-awaited RPG they had been waiting many years for. While the game has done very well on those platforms, there has been talk regarding whether or not it might come to other platforms. While a PC release is a definite possibility, it looks like a Nintendo Switch version isn’t currently in the cards.

This information was revealed by game director Hajime Tabata, where he didn’t entirely rule out the possibility. He said that “There are no plans for Switch at the moment, but overall, there is interest in the platform among the development team. Incidentally, I think that Switch would be really cool if it could run Android apps on its portable screen…”

This has been a story that many developers of recent games have been telling, which is likely due to the caution that many are taking with the system. Despite the console reportedly having greater third-party support than the Wii U did, how well the console ends up selling remains to be seen. The Wii U was Nintendo’s worst-selling console ever, and the Nintendo Switch will have to perform much better right off the bat in order to change developers’ minds on bringing games to it.

It won’t be much longer until we finally get to see how the console is received, as it will launch on March 3rd and cost $299. It won’t have the most extensive launch lineup, but the fact that it will be launching with a heavy-hitter like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will likely make up for a lot of that. That game will also be launching for the Wii U, however, which will be that console’s last major release.
