Microsoft’s Xbox Scorpio was revealed today in a technology breakdown by Eurogamer, in which it was confirmed that the console will in fact be able to handle 4K gaming at 60 FPS with performance to spare.
Described as a custom GPU that runs at an “unprecedented clock speed,” the Xbox Scorpio’s GPU is coupled with 12GB of GDDR5 RAM and eight core CPU, per the article. Rumors were also confirmed that the console will feature both a compact body and integrated power supply like the Xbox One S.
According to Eurogamer, “performance is remarkable,” Â describing a Forza Motorsport demo that saw the console hitting the native 4K target at 60 FPS with “substantial performance overhead.”
This performance overhead suggests that Scorpio will indeed be a true 4K gaming console, and the most powerful console to date. Â With power to spare, other visual improvements will also be possible according to the report.
Comparing it to the PS4 Pro, it truly trumps it in every aspect — A faster CPU & GPU, more memory, more memory bandwidth, and a 4K UHD Blu-Ray player to boot.
As expected, the report did not reveal the price of the console, what it looks like, and what the final name of it will be.
