EA’s present may look dark right now, but that hasn’t stopped the publisher from talking about a brighter future by dropping some teasers about its upcoming action-adventure game.
By EA’s own admission, the game was to be its big foray into the action-adventure genre. Despite it’s growing popularity and the fact that many other firms have found success within the genre, EA has continued to remain out of the loop, instead sticking to its core IPs.
With that in mind, one would expect to hear more about EA’s bold step into new waters, but what happened was the opposite: we heard practically nothing. Outside of the reasoning behind the mystery game, all we know is that it’s being developed by a company in Canada called Motive Studios which is being headed by former Ubisoft studio head and industry veteran Jade Raymond.
However, that changed earlier this week during the UBS Global Technology Conference when CFOÂ Blake Jorgensen revealed some teasers about the game and why EA hasn’t said much about the upcoming title.
“We have a team in Montreal that is building a brand new action franchise, probably for our Fiscal [Year] 2021 that also looks fantastic and very exciting. A new game, with a lot of new interesting gameplay that I don’t think anyone’s ever seen before.”
Hearing about “new interesting gameplay” in an action-adventure title is quite exciting but hearing that it will “probably” be coming in fiscal year 2021 is somewhat of a bummer. Though perhaps that predicted launch date is indicative of how important EA views its entry into the action-adventure scene — something that Jorgensen was quick to bring up.
“That’s the largest sector in gaming. It’s one we haven’t spent a lot of time in because we were so focused on sports and first-person shooters. We feel like there’s a huge opportunity there.”
