Nintendo has announced that the original Dark Souls will be coming to the Switch in the form of a remastered version called Dark Souls Remastered — giving truth to the rumors which surfaced online just a few hours before.
First released on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2011, Dark Souls garnered widespread praise thanks to its brutal difficulty and engaging gameplay. This popularity allowed it to get a PC port in 2012, called Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition, and expand into a larger series which saw its final entry, Dark Souls 3, arrive on consoles and PC in 2016.
At long last, Nintendo will finally be getting in on the action with Dark Souls Remastered. The Switch version of the game will come with the Artorias of the Abyss downloadable content, as well as improved framerate and resolution. Though this an important occasion of Nintendo, it’s also an important one for the Dark Souls franchise as well, as it’s the first time the franchise will be available on a handheld device.
Dark Souls Remastered is due out for the Nintendo Switch on May 25.
