Earlier today, Bandai Namco held its Gundam Game New Year Festival 2018 livestream from Tokyo, Japan where it revealed the identity of one of the two games it had under wraps: SD Gundam G Generation Genesis for the Nintendo Switch.
If this title sounds familiar to you, then that’s because SD Gundam G Generation Genesis initially released on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita back in 2016, making this the “old game on a new platform” that Bandai Namco had teased when the livestream was announced. And while this game might be a tad outdated, you’ll be happy to know that you won’t have to worry about the price, as it will include all of the DLC packages released for the previous platforms.
On the other hand, those unfamiliar with SD Gundam G Generation Genesis should know that rather than being an action or fighting game like many Gundam titles before it, this game is a strategy JRPG featuring mobile suits mostly from the Universal Century Gundam series. So while the game itself might enter somewhat new territory, fans of the overall series will at least be comforted in knowing that they’ll be able to recognize many of the mobile suits featured therein thanks to the anime.
Lastly, Bandai Namco is providing incentive to pick up this game early, as it announced that first-print copies will also come with a download code for the Super Famicom game Super Gachapon World SD Gundam X.
SD Gundam G Generation Genesis was but one of the two games that were revealed during today’s livestream. This announcement was accompanied by the reveal of New Gundam Breaker which will be coming out for the PlayStation 4 later this year.
SD Gundam G Generation Genesis is due out for the Nintendo Switch in Japan on April 26.
