With SoulCalibur 6 coming ever closer to release, it seemed like there were no more characters for Bandai Namco to reveal. However, thanks to a new batch of screenshots from Tokyo Game Show, it’s now clear that there is at least one more character yet to be formally unveiled: Inferno.

To recap, Inferno was the series’ original antagonist, serving as the controlling force behind Nightmare in SoulCalibur and SoulCalibur II, before becoming the second incarnation of Nightmare in SoulCalibur III.

Back on topic, Inferno’s presence in SoulCalibur 6 was made evident last week after a twitter user named Dynasty posted some screenshots which indicate that players will be able to unlock it after progressing far enough in the game’s Soul Chronicle mode.

Based on additional photos, it appears players will need to fight Inferno at some point during the mode, though whether they will have to follow a certain route to accomplish this remains unclear. Once they do fight it, reports suggest Inferno will be a “mimic character,” meaning it will adopt the move set of another random character in the game at the start of every match or every round like Edge Master in other entries in the series.

To be honest, Inferno was pretty much a given due to it’s importance to the first part of the series, but it’s still nice to see it here nonetheless. That said, it would be interesting to see Elysium, too, if only for players to better understand the conflict between the souls of the series’ namesake weapons. Sure, Elysium doesn’t appear until SCV, but it probably wouldn’t hurt the canon to have them both appear in a prologue chapter of some sort.

Unfortunately, Inferno’s presence as the game’s mimic character likely means that Edge Master won’t be making the cut.

SoulCalibur 6 is due out for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on Oct. 19.
