The PS4 Is On Its Way To Selling 100 Million Units Worldwide

The PlayStation 4 has been out for more than five years now, and it doesn’t look like sales will slow down anytime soon. In fact, Sony’s current home console is steadily approaching the 100 million mark, with the console having now sold through more than 91.6 million units worldwide.

The latest figure comes to us from Sony itself, who took note of a strong holiday season where the PS4 sold more than 5.6 million units worldwide.

Here’s what Sony Interactive Entertainment president and CEO John Kodera said about the latest achievement:

“Thanks to the continued support from our fans during the holiday season, we are pleased to announce that PS4 has reached 91.6 million units globally. We are also happy to announce that the monthly active users of PlayStation Network continues to show strong growth, and has surpassed 90 million as of end of November 2018.”

While these sales figures are impressive in of themselves, the PlayStation 4 did well in other areas too. Specifically, the announcement revealed a total of 876 million PS4 games have been sold through worldwide as of Dec. 31, 2018, with 50.7 million of those units coming from the holiday season, and Marvel’s Spider-Man has sold through more than nine million copies worldwide as of Nov. 25, 2018.

So what’s next for Sony and the PS4 after this? As Kodera puts it: “the next PS4 milestone.”

In other words, the PlayStation 4 is shooting for that magic 100 million mark — a number that will certainly be reached before the end of the year with exclusives like Days Gone and Babylon’s Fall, along with multi-platform releases like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Control, Kingdom Hearts 3, Doom Eternal and Devil May Cry 5.

As it predicted, 2018 turned out to be an impressive year for Sony and the PS4, and it looks like 2019 will be no different — even with its lack of an E3 conference this year.
